Turton Tea Wins Best Tea Internationally
Destin, FL June 29, 2004 -- Over one hundred years ago a tea plantation owner, Richard Blechynden first served iced tea at the 1904 World’s Fair, since then it has become a mainstay beverage in American tea history. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the popularization of Iced Tea, an International Iced Tea Competition was held in Las Vegas, Nevada sponsored by Tea Association of the USA and the Take Me 2 Tea Expo.
Turton Tea entered the international competition competing against some of the tea industry’s largest companies and importers. Each of the contestants submitted a gallon tea sample that was cupped blind and judged by a distinguished competition jury panel of tea experts. The criteria for the judges were based on four tea principles: taste, visual appearance/color, aroma, and a drinking attribute known in the tea trade as "chugability." With the noted tea popularity on the rise and the demand for flavored teas, restaurants across the country are now offering several tea selections on their menus so it is expected that each of the award-winning teas will be in great demand.
Turton Tea entered two different categories; the flavored–unsweetened division had more entries than any of the other categories and Turton Tea’s ‘Royal Destin’ blend was honored with a First Place win making it the best-flavored iced tea internationally! Through no fault of the Turtons, a little mishap during the first competition in the unflavored category, may have hindered the outcome of their other entry. However, ‘Turton Brothers Blend’ still came in 4th place, ranking it high among the top 10 unflavored teas internationally.
“Since our signature brew represented our company and city we wanted to make sure it was extremely flavorful. This award is an exceptional honor and we are truly grateful for the privilege of being recognized by our peers” commented Ruth Turton, co-founder of Turton Tea. Royal Destin is made from a premium Sri Lanka black that is flavored with succulent sweet orange citrus notes that compare rather closely to a fresh bushel of Florida navel oranges, and it contains just the precise amount of spice to give it character. Royal Destin is obviously an excellent iced tea but is also a known favorite among hot tea drinkers too.
What sets Turton Tea apart from other tea merchants is that they offer a generous selection of exclusive gourmet flavors that are uniquely their own. In addition to the unusual gourmet flavored teas, they offer rare and estate teas including black, oolong, green and white tea varieties that are imported from some of the world’s finest growing regions.
In the description summary of the award winning tea Royal Destin, it clearly states the Turtons admiration for their hometown. “I have always tried to include a coastal hometown tie-in to our products. Even my business cards feature a picture of Royal Destin on our beautiful white sand beach. Winning this international competition will certainly bring even more recognition to my favorite tea and city! Our company motto, ‘Extraordinary flavor speaks for itself,’ is exemplified by this award – I am genuinely appreciative to have the endorsement of industry peers”, said Susan.
